White Cap Grille in Portland Closes Monday for an Unspecified Length of Time

The restaurant could even undergo a name change.

After a Kick the Keg party on Sunday, January 10, White Cap Grille is closing Monday for renovations and possibly a name change. This may come as a surprise to readers who expected the restaurant to be closed already after its space went up for lease on Craigslist Boston last summer. The ad called the restaurant "mismanaged" and said the huge, downtown location would be available to lease November 1, 2015.

Instead, the restaurant claims it had "a most successful Holiday Season" and is only now planning "substantial" alterations which "require financing from outside investors," according to the Facebook event description. "The conditions for that investment are significant, and in addition to some exciting physical changes, are likely to include changes to our menu, image and perhaps even a name change," the message continues, before requesting, perhaps ominously, that customers redeem any gift cards or coupons on or before January 10.

Managing partner Michaela McVetty told Eater she's not willing to say anymore about White Cap Grille's concrete plans at the moment.
