As expected, Bissell Brothers Brewing Company is expanding from 1 Industrial Way to Thompson's Point, contrary to co-owner Peter Bissell's outright denial of the rumor this fall. The Portland producer of some of the country's most sought-after hoppy beers announced the about-face on its website yesterday, noting that the move to the Brick North building "will include a significant increase in production capacity, tap room size, & retail efficiency." The company will also gain a diverse set of neighbors, with a distillery, winery, restaurants, and more in development.
Meanwhile, most of Bissell's current space will shift hands to adjacent Foundation Brewing Company, more than doubling that brewery's footprint and easing the strain on its tiny retail space. Co-owner Joel Mahaffey said Bissell is expected to move at the end of April, "so all things going according to plan, which they're almost guaranteed not to, we'd be moving in and starting renovations in May."
