After two IndieGoGo campaigns (one an abject failure, the next modestly successful), European-style restaurant Stirling and Mull has announced via Facebook "an unofficial opening of the doors" on Saturday, June 27 at 11 a.m. A limited menu will be available while staff is trained. Anthony St. Peter, former executive chef of Portland Harbor Hotel's Eve's at the Garden, appears to be in charge of the kitchen.
Taking over the former home of Freeport Grill, Stirling and Mull is planning its grand opening for July 4. The spot has a deck and a beer garden, and it sounds like owners Ed and Shana McLean haven't given up on becoming the second bar in Maine to feature a self-serve beer wall.
175 Lower Main Street, Freeport, (207) 869-5651, website. Hours expected to be Monday to Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., Sunday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
