It's no secret that taco options are limited in Maine. Yet there are a handful of places carrying the torch, one of which is about to expand. Portland Food Map reports that South Portland's beloved Taco Trio has leased 1706 Forest Avenue in Portland, formerly India Bazaar, Nina's Variety, and Papa's Place.
Owners Manuel Pena and Karen Rasmussen tell me that they hope to open in July with a slightly expanded menu and that they'll be adding outdoor seating once some landscaping can be completed.
Rumors have also swirled that the company was looking for a facility in Portland in which to produce tortillas, similar to Maine corn tortilla-maker Tortilleria Pachanga at 1 Industrial Way. Could that be a separate project still in the works?
