Northern Union Wine Bar and Kitchen Coming to Ogunquit in May

A sommelier-developed wine program and a small plates concept are on the docket.

There's a new wine bar coming to town — if you're in Ogunquit, that is. Northern Union is under construction now at 261 Shore Road, aiming to hold soft openings before Memorial Day weekend. Matt Wickert (Owner/Wino, according to his business card) and Lauren Wickert (Owner/Foodie, according to hers), who come from the pharmaceuticals realm in Boston, promise on their official website that they'll "be serving a selection of over 100 wines paired with seasonally-inspired, sharable plates." Matt, however, told Eater they just hired a stellar chef last night that they can't yet announce, and the menu they envisioned will shift as he takes it over.

The "Northern" part of the name refers to Maine's place as the northernmost state in New England, while the "Union" is that of food and wine. Matt said that the bar is wine-focused first and foremost, and they're working with sommelier Alicia Towns Franken from Boston to build the program, but they'll have eight to ten small plates to accompany the drinks.

Keep an eye on the company's Facebook page, where the Wickerts have posted steady progress updates since January, including the city's approval of their liquor license on February 17 and renovation photos since March 12.
