Maine has limited options for Indian food. There have even been two recent Facebook campaigns to entice such cuisine to Waterville (successful) and Rockland (ongoing). But Kittery has Tulsi, and Tulsi was named by Travel and Leisure Magazine as one of the top 22 Indian restaurants in the country last year.
Speaking to Seacoast Online about the accolades, owners Janet Howe and Rajish Mandekar said at the time they were "toying with the idea of a second restaurant in Exeter, N.H., or South Portland." Howe confirmed to Eater today, though, that the home of Tulsi North, as they're currently calling the new restaurant, will be Wells. There's no timeline projected yet, as she and Mandekar are awaiting the approval of bank loans to begin the project.
Rumor has it the couple may open a Tulsi restaurant in Oregon, too. Howe didn't deny this, she merely suggested it wouldn't happen anytime soon. No word on why they're eyeing Oregon for another expansion.
