When Karl Deuben and Bill Leavy, owners of brightly colored Small Axe Truck, purchased the East Ender brand along with the space, you might've expected them to ease into the vibrant style of the neighborhood spot. Since the restaurant reopened last week post-renovations, though, it appears the name is the only link between the two businesses. See for yourself in the photos above.
In his first look, John Golden called the subdued new look "self-effacing to the point of being invisible." The Blueberry Files suggested the redesign "might seem a little plain" but is "a welcome change." Perhaps the quietude of the design is so the food can speak for itself; neither of the aforementioned bloggers had a bad word to say about the fare coming from the East Ender kitchen.
