The Drink Exchange/FB

Taking over the former home of French eatery The Merry Table, stock market-themed bar The Drink Exchange opens tomorrow at 43 Wharf Street. It's the latest from Tanner Herget, whose Wharf Street mini-empire includes nearby 51 Wharf, Dusk, and Bonfire Country Bar. There's no official website or listing of hours yet, but the bar's Facebook page is active.

WCYY has more information on The Drink Exchange, whose conceit is that its prices will be "based on popularity and demand," with screens displaying price changes in real time. The bar is named after the technology it utilizes, also called The Drink Exchange, which is for sale as "a Stock Market pricing system designed to increase profit, attract patrons, and create an exciting and dynamic environment."

This isn't the first time Herget has introduced new technology to his theme bars: Bonfire utilizes a pour-your-own beer wall, whose novelty was the one aspect of her visit that Kate McCarty enjoyed. The Bollard publisher Chris Busby has railed extensively in both that publication as well as his Bangor Daily News column about the "mayhem" at night's end on Wharf Street and what he believes is the role of Herget's establishments in that mayhem.
