Wharf Street's upcoming Bonfire, "the best country bar in Maine," which promises "drinks served in Red Solo Cups and a hint of technology" as well as Maine's first legal "self-service beer wall," is "seeking potential bartenders, wait staff, shot girls, door staff and staff." One catch: "Qualified candidates must submit a headshot." Though it might feel wrong for a U.S. employer to require a photograph with an employment application, it's not, according to the Maine Department of Labor. Though Maine is a state of equal opportunity employment, the onus would be on a rejected applicant to prove discrimination based on race, age, or other factors that might be determined from a picture.
