Snack shack Bresca & the Honey Bee is the subject of "Dine Out Maine" in today's Portland Press Herald. Writer Melissa Coleman graciously makes the trek to New Gloucester's "bucolic inland beach" to sample the fancy hotdogs and other fare from James Beard nominee Krista Kern Desjarlais (finals in 2011 and semifinalist in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013).
"The pièce de résistance is indisputably the D'Ameri Acres pork belly – blackened on the grill with crispy crevices full of maple glaze, " recalls Coleman. The critic also approves of the ice cream at Bresca & the Honey Bee, calling it "the best [she] can remember eating."
During her visit, Coleman gets a quote from Desjarlais about the closing of her fine dining restaurant Bresca: "Everyone was scratching their heads when we closed," she explains. "The restaurant was in good shape, but I needed a change."
