Banded Horn Brewing Company in Biddeford led a trip to collect fresh spruce tips at Pineland Farms Monday in order to spice an upcoming batch of beer. Head brewer and co-owner Ian McConnell, a native Mainer, made a spruce beer while at Sixpoint Brewing Company. Historically, spruce tips were one of many alternatives to hops in beer due to their citrusy, floral, or piney qualities, as well as a scurvy cure, thanks to their high levels of vitamin C. [-EME-]
