As reported Monday, something called Thurston's Wicked Good Burger will be replacing KFC on Forest Avenue in Portland. Guesses as to the origin of the mysterious restaurant popped up in the report's comments section. The first and most compelling was from user Webini, suggesting that the similar name and colors could mean a connection to Thurston's Lobster Pound on Mt. Desert Island. Not many Thurstons out there.
While that link has been neither confirmed nor denied, a subsequent commenter, Chef Schilly, seems to speak for the burger joint. He or she shares a boldly colored website with only the business logo and a promise of "coming soon," and further elaborates in the comment that the restaurant will "feature CAB (Certified Angus Beef) burgers and fresh frozen custard. Opening in June 2014. Hiring all positions." A follow-up comment from user Count Spatula asserts that the owner is the same who ran KFC, who is "also looking to open up a split Taco Bell/KFC somewhere else on Forest Ave." Thanks for helping clear up some of the mystery surrounding the new venture, and keep the intel coming if it arises.
