Good Shepherd Truck Wants to Raise Funds and Friends to Battle Hunger

While the Maine food truck boom is bringing lots of interesting mobile eateries to the streets, the Good Shepherd Food Bank's truck has a unique mission: it wants to raise awareness of Maine's hunger problems, and, in turn, raise funds and friends to help feed the hungry. The truck, operated by chef Matt Brown, is available for events and catering (more info on Facebook). Keep an eye out for it at Rising Tide Brewing Co. and at Portland festivals this spring and summer. (Update: And at the Kennebunkport Festival's Brews and Tunes in June.)

Brown is a 20-year veteran of the local food scene, most recently working in sales at Browne Trading Co. in Portland. He's also worked in kitchens at the old Newick's in South Portland, Ricetta's (both SoPo and Falmouth), the Village Cafe in Portland and Casa Napoli in Falmouth. He says, "The truck will specialize in food that is delicious and nutritious." The menu will change regularly to incorporate seasonal ingredients. "I've been shopping the farmers markets for years and have great relationships with farmers and plan to put that to use with the truck's menus," Brown says, adding that he is "truly passionate about locally sourced food, and food that is nourishing."
