Old Vines Wine Bar, at 173 Port Road in Kennebunk, has been for sale by owner since January, but is reaching the end of its lifespan. "I have not found a buyer as of yet, came close twice but nothing as of now," said owner Mike Farrell via a Facebook post on Sunday.
As such, Farrell thanked his staff and the community and shared that December 13 would be his last day in business. "It was a hard decision, but the right one for my family, it is time to move on to something else," he explained.
The bar's final day will be its annual Open the Bottle Night, when all bottles of wine are offered at "a slight mark-up over cost," according to the Facebook event page. The event is one "we usually do the last Saturday in February before we close for winter break. We thought that would be a great way to finish my run here," Farrell said. The bar will open early that day (open from 3 p.m. - 12 a.m.) and have a special wine menu.
