Mesa Verde, a 16-year-old Portland Mexican restaurant and an abuser of Comic Sans, has shut down after two recent failed food safety inspections, reports the Bangor Daily News. Yesterday afternoon, someone spray-painted a message across the window: "Shut down by the new Gestapo of Augusta, Gov. LePage." The graffiti disappeared by the end of the day. The restaurant posted the same sentence on its Facebook page, although it's unclear whether they put up the graffiti themselves or were just referring to it.
Mesa Verde served a variety of burritos, quesadillas, tacos, and other Mexican food, including a lot of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. And most importantly: $8 margarita pitchers on Thursdays.
