Crauxnut mania has only just begun. After debuting the Cronut imitation a week ago and selling out in minutes, Little Bigs vowed to have plenty on Sunday. They made lots, but still not enough to meet the demand. The crauxnuts (after some debate, that's the official name) were available only from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. At 10:45 a.m., the line was only a few deep and a couple of fresh from the fryolator croissant-doughnut hybrids were easy to come by. Served hot and covered in sugar, the pastries were deserving of the hype, with a flaky, sweet exterior and airy interior.
By 11 a.m., the line stretched out the door (granted, only a few folks fit inside at a time). Those who reserved crauxnuts got theirs, including one gentleman with a box of 20. But some of those who showed up without one on hold did not. Here's what Little Bigs posted on Facebook: "90 some odd crauxnuts in 45 minutes.... A few of you were left out in the cold-And to you we apologize.....! (Although, they did NOT leave empty handed)" Hey, a maple-bacon crueller isn't a bad consolation prize. For next Sunday, Little Bigs has an "almond frangipane filled" crauxnut planned. Pre-orders are highly recommended.
