What's Going On at JP Thornton's in South Portland?

New, 6 comments

JP Thornton's, the seemingly popular spot on Broadway in South Portland that has a bar and grill, along with a separate deli, was closed and dark this afternoon. A sign on the deli window read, "The deli is temporarily closed. We're sorry for any inconvenience. The bar and grille is still open." Another sign on the door said, "We apologize for the inconvenience but Jp Thorntons deli will be closed for the remainder of the night. -Management"

But there was this on the Facebook page from two days ago:

UPDATE: From JP Thornton's Facebook today: "Well we put up a good fight but we had to close our doors this week. Thank you all for your loyal support and patronage for the last 4 years. Hopefully this is not the end. Trying to figure things out because everybody needs a good place to go."

And this was the response to an email asking if there were plans to re-open: "yes.....in a few weeks."

Do you have any information that can shed some light on this situation? If so, email us: maine@eater.com. We love all tips, so if you know of a restaurant that's served its last, or maybe a new spot that's in the works, let us know.
