Elsmere BBQ and Little Bigs Open Soon in SoPo

SOUTH PORTLAND — Elsmere BBQ & Wood Grill announced that it plans to open next Saturday (August 17). The new joint from Adam Powers and Jeremy Rush will employ a central Texas style using a huge smoker imported from Dallas. [Facebook]

SOUTH PORTLAND — Little Bigs plans to open on Thursday (August 15) at 340 Main Street. Owners Pamela Fitzpatrick and James Murray Plunkett "will serve a selection of hand-crafted baked goods for carry out including an assortment of hand foods (any food that doesn't require utensils) ranging from doughnuts to savory hand pies," according to a release. OLD PORT — Maine Foodie Tours just launched some new offerings, including an "Afternoon Appetizer" tour that highlights Portland's booze history and toasts the end of the Prohibition era with local craft beers and cocktails. MULTIPLE LOCATIONS — Hey Bartender, a film from director Douglas Tirola that "tells the story of the bartender in the era of the craft cocktail," has three scheduled showings in Maine: August 19 at Portland's Space Gallery, August 20 at The Strand in Rockland, and August 21 at the Colonial Theater in Belfast. PORTLAND — EL Rayo bartender Henry Jost won the New England regional of Bombay Sapphire's Most Imaginative Bartender contest with his High Port cocktail. He advances to the September 8 finals in Vegas where he'll compete against 51 other mixologists for the U.S. title. [EaterWire]
