Elsmere BBQ & Wood Grill, owned by Adam Powers and Jeremy Rush, opens tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. 5 p.m. on Meeting House Hill on the corner of Cottage Road and Elsmere Avenue in South Portland. The space, previously an auto garage and then a dry cleaner, got an extensive makeover (see this video on their Facebook site for some destruction). Eater Maine recently got a a look at the impressive finished result. Check out the photos below.
The full menu is available here. It will feature central-Texas style brisket, pulled pork, house sausage, ribs and pulled chicken from the gigantic smoker lovingly named "Mama," a custom job from A.N. Bewley in Dallas that can hold 600 pounds of meat at a time. It's the only one north of Washington, D.C., according to Powers. There will also be wood-grill fired oysters, blackened catfish and vegetarian options. Both the smoker and grill are purely wood burning, with no gas used. As for drinks, there are eight beer taps with a focus on local brews. There are also seven signature cocktails from the full bar.
