There's still no sign up (see above) but the long-in-the-works second Tony's Donut Shop quietly opened on Monday on Broadway on the site of a former gas station. The original Tony's at 9 Bolton Street in Portland (it was once in a smaller space just across the street with its entrance on Congress Street) has been a local landmark for nearly 50 years. Both are owned by Rick Fournier.
The new shop has plenty of parking for those who need to grab a coffee and a doughnut (dozen?) on their way to work. The interior is currently as unadorned as the exterior, but there are some seats and tables, a drink cooler and plenty of doughnuts to choose from. It brings a much-needed doughnut infusion to South Portland, which sadly lost its very short-lived Frosty's location a few months back.
