The Portland Food Truck Season Starts Now

New, 2 comments

While food trucks have officially been allowed to operate in Portland since late last summer, license applications were slow to come in. Now, with Memorial Day around the corner, there are now several trucks in operation, with more planned to launch soon.

Kate McCarty of The Blueberry Files has a report on Friday evening's inaugural Flea Bites, a food truck gathering and vintage marketplace in the parking lot of the Portland Flea-for-All on Kennebec Street. The event is scheduled to take place on the first Friday of every month.

On Saturday over on Fox Street in East Bayside (a mere half mile from the Flea Bites spot), Rising Tide Brewing Company hosted the Pizza Pie on the Fly truck for pints, pizza and games of bean bag toss, attracting a good crowd for the debut of Food Truck Saturdays, which are planned weekly at the brewery from noon to 5 p.m. during the warmer months.

The Bite Into Maine truck is in the midst of upgrades, which have delayed its launch this season. The truck earned rave reviews for the lobster rolls it served up last summer at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth. Mainely Burgers, winner of Eater Maine's Best Burger vote, is also readying a second truck for launch later this month.
