From the minute it opened at noon a week ago today, In'finiti Fermentation & Distillation on Portland's waterfront has been mobbed with beer geeks, curiosity seekers and winter-weary nightcrawlers hungry for a new environment in which to park themselves in a booth or on a bar stool. The early word has been very, very good. Uber-picky John Golden of the Portland Press Herald's The Golden Dish blog raved about the food, "the food and house bier seem very promising," said Kate McCarty of The Blueberry Files; Anestes Fotiades of Portland Food Map "can personally recommend the Haute Fashioned from the cocktail menu," and aside from some whining over prices, comments on the Beer Advocate are largely positive. At cocktail hour on Friday, the joint was pleasantly busy, if not outright jumping. This sentiment may or may not be widespread, but one regular customer of Novare Res Bier Cafe — which has the same owners as In'finiti — was overheard saying that the hope was In'finiti would pull many of the tourists and hipsters away from Novare Res, leaving the serious beer lovers in relative peace.
