Forget any and all excitement over impending Portland newcomers Infiniti Brewing and Distillation, Outliers, Salvage BBQ & Smokehouse, Miyake Food Company or Blue Rooster ... the real thrill is that the Porthole is coming back! Yup, you heard that right: Randy Billings of The Portland Press Herald, who brought us all the ahem, dirt, on the rat-infestation-related shut-down last fall, reports that the much-missed Porthole will be cleaned up by Ken McGowan, who says it will reopen this spring. His family owns Custom House Wharf on which the Porthole sits, along with the Comedy Connection - also being renovated by McGowan - and Harding Lee Smith's in-progress fourth "room" Boone's Fish House & Oyster Room.

McGowan said he plans to keep the old decor of the Porthole and turn the Comedy Connection space into a pub that will be open year-round. The Porthole will be open for six months a year, he said.
