GoLocal.com has identified New England's 25 Best Food Towns and most of them are, no surprise to us, right here in Maine. At #22, Lincolnville (who knew?); #16 is Rockland; #14 Ogunquit; #9 Kennebunkport; #6 Bar Harbor; #5 Camden; and Portland ranked highest on the list for the state at #4.
Some of Maine's boldface names are quite naturally referenced: Primo, White Barn Inn, Arrows, Natatlie's at the Camden Harbour Inn and of course Fore Street, Eventide Oyster Co., Hugo's, Duckfat and Bresca in Portland. But there are some less-familiar, and, um, oddly surprising places in the mix too: Old Vines Wine Bar in Kennebunkport, OK, but Bay Leaf Cottages and Bistro in Lincolnville? Michelle's at the Ivy Manor Inn in Bar Harbor? And Lincolnville, but not Brunswick? GoLocal explains how it came up with the list here.
