The upcoming restaurant from Mark Gaier and Clark Frasier in the Renaissance Boston Waterfront Hotel has undergone a name change. It will be called M.C. Spiedo, rather than M.C. Medici. According to a rep for the Maine chefs, the name is "[i]nspired by the chefs' love of the Italian Renaissance. ... 'Spiedo' refers to 'spit' or 'skewer' in Italian. Rotisserie cooking was a wildly popular technique during the Renaissance. A 40-inch steel spit will be used nightly at M.C. Spiedo to roast locally sourced duck, chicken and suckling pig, among other restaurant classics."
M.C. Spiedo is targeting a February 2014 opening. Gaier and Frasier recently put their flagship Arrows restaurant in Ogunquit on the market in order to focus on their M.C. brand. They plan to continue to operate MC Perkins Cove, also in Ogunquit
