Orchid Thai opened last week in the True North building on Route 1 in Falmouth, bringing Rattanaphorn (or Pom, as she's better known) Boobphachati's Greater Portland Thai empire to four. She also owns Pom's Thai Taste in Portland and Thai Taste and Pom's Thai in South Portland. The latest restaurant and bar "is a departure from the established formula. The newest restaurant features a smaller menu, higher-quality ingredients and a more contemporary design," according to The Forecaster. There are a mere 83 items on the menu, compared to 100+ at the other restaurants, and prices are slightly higher ($1-$3 per dish), as "choicer cuts of meat" are used and there are daily seafood specials from Harbor Fish Market. "The differences at the new restaurant are meant to reflect its surrounding community. It's meant to be upscale, but not intimidating, (Pom) said."
The full menu can be viewed on the website. The restaurant is open seven days a week, with lunch served from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday, and dinner going from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on those days. On Saturdays and Sundays, hours are noon to 10 p.m.
