What's the fairest sandwich in Vacationland? Duckfat's duck confit panini, says Food Network Magazine in its September feature: "50 Sandwiches, 50 States. The ciabatta bread - as important as the fillings - is from Standard Baking Co. and Rob Evans' pressed confit is enhanced by "a sweet seasonal spread like fig or blueberry." Duckfat's winning sandwich was nominated by "sandwich scout" Meredith Goad of The Portland Press Herald, who has more to say about it on the Maine ala Carte blog. The top five of the 50, including the duck panini, will be featured on "The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread" on Aug. 19 at 8 p.m. on Cooking Channel.
