KENNEBUNKPORT—Wine cellar dining is once again in vogue, although in her quest to find Maine restaurants offering the experience, PPH's Meredith Goad turned up just two. One is the upper-crust White Barn Inn, whose cellar seats 15; George W. Bush often hosted dinners there during his first term. The second is Caiola's in Portland, where the cellar's vibe is more casual. It seats eight, and is booked into December.
MIDCOAST—In a Labor Day weekend travel feature, The Boston Herald references DownEast magazine's September list of Maine's prettiest villages, recommending "must-see spots for food lovers" in the top four. These include Bet's Fish Fry in Boothbay, Francine Bistro in Camden and yes, Red's Eats in Wiscasset.
KENNEBUNKPORT—Chef Ken Oringer of Earth at Hidden Pond will host two Spanish-style dinners this fall, one of several food and restaurant events listed this week in The Portland Press Herald. The dinners, on Sept. 19 and Oct. 17, feature tapas, paella and Spanish wines; cost is $130 per person.
