CARRABASSETT VALLEY - Looking for a culinary adventure? Jay Villani of Sonny's and Local 188 in Portland will be the guest chef for a dinner on Saturday, July 28 hosted by the non-profit Maine Huts & Trails at The Flagstaff Hut on Flagstaff Lake. The cost, $250/person or $450/couple, includes dinner with wines, lodging and full breakfast. Proceeds will benefit MH&T. For reservations: 877-634-8824.

DEER ISLE - The Bangor Daily News has a profile of 44 North Coffee in Deer Isle, owned by Melissa Raftery and Megan Dewey-Wood. In addition to brewing coffee and selling beans at their shop and several other markets, they brew for restaurants, including Havana in Bar Harbor and The Lost Kitchen in Belfast.

FREEPORT - Area restaurants are participating in the L.L. Bean Food Festival on Saturday, July 14, which features samplings from Tavern at Brunswick Station, Seagrass Bistro and many others. At 1:45 p.m., chefs from Harraseeket Inn, Azure Cafe? and Freeport Seafood Co. will compete in a cook-off using local ingredients, with culinary authors Margaret Hathaway, Dana Moos and Kathy Gunst serving as judges.
