Lindsey Altshul, owner of the Pepperland Cafe in South Berwick, was known for his generous spirit as much as his encylopedic beer knowledge, say his many, many friends - more than 500 of whom turned out to honor him at a memorial service on Saturday. Rachel Forrest of The Portsmouth Herald remembers Altshul with her own stories and those of other fans.
Altshul's death, which stunned the Southern Maine restaurant community, is still under investigation; his body was found washed up on a beach in Rye, N.H. on May 22.
