Coming To Portland: Eventide, Sebastian's, Spread

New, 1 comment

Three new restaurants on their way to the Old Port:
1) Eventide: 86 Middle St. - will not be "Portland's first full-fledged oyster bar," as recently described by Downeast's John Golden - apparently, he's forgetting the iconic J's Oyster, which opened in 1977. But coming from the new owners of Hugo's, Arlin Smith, Andrew Taylor and Michael Wiley, who are opening it next door in the old Rabelais Bookstore space, Eventide Oyster Company will likely be somewhat swankier than the lovably dive-y J's.
2) Spread: 100 Commercial St - a New American bistro in a location that has never been successful but has a shot now because of the team in the kitchen. The talent includes Brandon Ruble, formerly of Petite Jacqueline, Derek Federico from five-five-five and Charlie Trotter's veteran Chris Long.
3) Sebastian's, 339 Fore St. - minimal info on this one, except that it appears to be another addition to the Old Port pub scene.
