At LFK: Cocktails, Pub Food And ... Typewriters?

“Laugh more ? you are already dying.” is the cheery slogan introducing the typed drink menu at LFK – the latest restaurant to come to Portland’s Longfellow Square. That’s typed – as on a typewriter – the old-school kind that clacks loudly as you peck at the keys. According to John Golden of Downeast Magazine's The Golden Dish blog, there are several typewriters (people actually sit down and type every so often) installed as part of the scene at LFK – the initials stand for Longfellow Fellowship of Knights, which never existed, but seems perfect for this quirky art installation-esque corner bar. Since it opened earlier this month, its communal tables have been steadily packed with a happy crowd tucking into reasonably priced modern pub food (beer-braised brisket filled Cornish pasties, bacon-wrapped meatloaf) Also on the drink menu, this admonition: “Rose (not white f_ing zin! Not sweet shit!)”
