In its commanding location at the heart of the Old Port, Sonny's, opened in 2009, is as much a Portland institution as the historic former bank building in which it is housed. Owner Jay Villani preserved the architectural integrity of the space, while incorporating the contemporary art and funky design details that characterize Sonny's and his first Portland restaurant, Local 188. A perpetually busy spot for cocktails, Sonny's specializes in infusions such as chile tequila and strawberry-jalapeno vodka, displayed in large glass jars at the bar.
